Kind of a shot in the dark.
Right click on the numbers and go to numbering Options, On the last menu tab labeled options, add spaces to the box that says after.
Select the TOC
Right Click
Choose 'Change index' (I work in a Dutch version, so might be slightly different)
At the second tab, 'items', there's a complicated row with fields and buttons, called 'Structure'
I think putting some spaces in the second field, should help.
Anyway, that's the place to change that and to do lots more.
