That is bizarre, I was going to suggest doing what you already said you did in the 1st paragraph.

As a test, you may want to watch the modified time on those files after you click OK in OOo. See of the files are modified or not.

I already did that, and in this case the times are not a-changing. What I need to understand is the rationale behind OO.o accessing two or three acor files in different locations. That is what always baffled me. I suspect my problem is related to that. Perhaps only one of the standard locations is used for user additions, and I've gone and nuked it. If so, that makes my easy-update strategy unworkable, regarding autocorrect at least.
