Well, looks like I broke something. I placed as many user support files as I could in one place, and then pointed Options/Paths to that folder (and only this folder, abandoning the other "parallel" files), for ease of upgrading.

Now, however, autocorrect does not keep any additions. They go into the dialog's list, I OK out, and when I go back they are not there. I checked, and acor1033.dat and acor2057.dat are both not read-only.

Does anyone have any insight on this, or know where I can find how these files are supposed to work?

I have a feeling you have been enthusiastically changing paths but in,
perhaps, the wrong place. Please tell us whether or not you installed
OOo as mult-user (-net) or as a single user plus give us the path you
entered into Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Paths.

This will help.

I install all versions of OO.o as a single user. (My sig was wrong, I'm updating it to version m74.)

The path I've created and specced for autocorrect, autotext, user dictionary (standard.dic) and my templates is: c:\documents and settings\<user>\open office common.

In the case of the Templates path, I added this new path to the standard given paths. But for all the rest I substituted the new path for the standard given paths, removing the old ones. My goal was to get all these user support files in one place for easy transportability when upgrading.

I also placed my entire User Configuration hierarchy in the path c:\documents and settings\<user>\open office common\config, for the same reason.

o I'm not aware of any problem with registering my user settings.

o The dictionary is logging my additions, this occurs when I close OO.o.

o My templates are being picked up via the File/New dialog.

o But I see that besides autocorrect being moribund, autotext is not saving the list intersessionally, though it is set to do so.
Only by opening a large file does it populate itself.

Thus, this problem affects both autocorrect and autotext.

Thanks,
Paul
