Hi John,

Looks like it will work :-)

I'm glad it helps solving your problem.

Here is what I tried:
Made a fresh user install.
Did customizations as that user. Even added a clip art and template.
Ziped up user/ I did exclude a couple things but did most everything.
put in share/uno_packages
ran <install>/program/pkgchk -s

It worked just fine!

A couple questions.
Jusr ziping up everything makes it real easy, but should I be more carefull with what I put in the zip?

Doing this the UNO package manager will probe the files in the archive and depending on their type/extension, will take what it thinks the appropriate steps are, i.e copying the files around and/or registering components, merging configuration and so on.

The types that the manager understands and the associated actions are described in the developer's guide, available at least at http://api.openoffice.org/docs/DevelopersGuide/DevelopersGuide.pdf, in section 4.9 (page 283).

With clip art it doesn't look like it puts the actuall clip art in the package when using the gui in gallery.
At the moment not sure if it's desirable but can one put them in the package?

What you need to be aware of is that the package manager is primarily a way of distributing addons to the functionalities of OOo. It provides a mechanism to specify where you need individual files included in your package and that it doesn't understand itself to be copied, please have a look at page 285, Arbitrary Files paragraph.

I don't think you can do that much harm by putting stuff in the package and then installing it, as it's kind of the goal of the system to be able to add/remove packages without too much residual presence. So a bit of experimentation might be needed ;-).
