Correct - Gmail does thread based on the subject line. Which on some level is correct (I do realise that there is another level within the mail headers to distinguish mail). All email (I'm sure your not going to disagree here) should have a descriptive line - this should make therefore unique and easy to understand. If not, then posters do run the risk of being over looked.
