Since you are thinking of the long term, it would be worth having a look
at the forthcoming ooo2 snapshot - notice it's not recommended for
production use. You can download from

http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html

There is a drawing toolbar with sets of shapes which are similar to the
ones offered in Word, though they are organised differently

John, Thanks for the suggestion. "Snapshots" are new to me and so I'm intimidated. How do I handle a snapshot, how do I look at it, and where should I download it to? Will it load alongside my regular 1.1.4 and show up in my programs tray in Win XP? And then how do I do an uninstall? I'm afraid I'll have two conflicting programs and everything will get scrambled. Anyone out there have any clues for me?
Kevin

You look at a snapshot just by running it.

Having two version at one should pose no trouble. I currently run 1.1.4, 1.9.74, & 1.9.78. When a new build comes out, I uninstall the second oldest snapshot and then I have the two most recent on my system.

There is no real reason to be afraid as long as you maintain using 1.1.4 for anything important. If you do use a snapshot for critical files that need to opened in 1.1.4 later, make sure you save in OOo 1.1.x format.

HTH,
