You should let us know which version of OOo you use. I will guess that it is 1.1.4. I suggest that you set Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > External programs > email to Mozilla1 (option 1) as a first step and set the path on this page to /usr/bin/mozilla-thunderbird.
