Hi Ian,
Is this a stand-alone works converter? I think that I've downloaded and installed this only to find that it's an add-in for Word.

However a reasonable workaround is to save your WKS files as RTF files. OpenOffice can
read and write RTF files. However there is a Microsoft utility for converting the wks
files : go to this Microsoft website and in section 1 for Product select Word and for
Version select All Versions. Then in section 2 select Converters and Viewers and click on
the Update List link. You should then have listed below a link for the relevant
converter."

When I click on the link I go to a web site for downloads. I see no section 1
for product so

how do I find this section 1?

Microsoft keep changing their web site, but I have just checked these
links and they worked:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=B9E11E83-F51B-4977-B572-8C042DF802C1&displaylang=EN
or
http://www.computerhope.com/download/updates.htm (bottom of the page).

Has anyone ever looked into how much effort would be involved in writing
Works converters? For example is there any overlap with the Office
formats? Have other projects written Works filters?

Thanks, Ian Laurenson
