Hi Douglas,

I've been playing around with this for half an hour and it's time to
yell for help. ;-)

I have a numbered paragraph that I'd like to refer to by its number in a later paragraph. Like this (numbers are generated):

4.2.1 This is the paragraph that will be pointed to.

...

5.3.1 As I said above in <ref>, mumble foo yadda.

Where <ref> will print as "4.2.1". Is there a way to do this?

Looking at the online help, section "references/inserting cross-references", you can find how to define a point as a cross-reference target (for instance the beginning of your "This is the paragraph...") and then how to cross-reference it. It all happens in Insert/Cross-Reference (which is in fact a subsection of Fields), and you'd have to use the "Chapter" style to display the number as the reference.
