The bullet shows up fine in 1.1.4 but not in 1.9.79 or .80. Also the OpenSymbol font appears differently in the special character insert menu in the two versions. Specifically, the bullet doesn't show up in the 1.9.79 or .80. It should be the 5th down and 3rd over with code U+2022. It the snapshots it is not there, but it is there in 1.1.4.
Has anyone else experience this? I have Win XP. All of the screen shots are attached to the issue at <http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=40717>.

THis is very odd. I cannot reproduce your findings on my XPpro box sans SP2. DO you have SP2? If yes this may be part of the problem. You may want to contact me off-line as the box is a laptop which is seldom on- line.
I do not have SP2. I know one other person with this issue. I can not figure it out.
I can't figure out why it works in 1.1.4, but not 1.9.80.
Is there a path somewhere that I need to set so that it looks in the right fonts folder?
Does the file name of the font matter?
So confused.
