Do you have a Thesaurus from before that you are trying to use with OOo? If yes, then this may not work without some effort on your part. OOo comes with its own Thesaurus in most languages (for sure in English) that works quite well. Please use File > AutoPilot > Install new dictionaries ... to install dictionaries, hyphenation dictionaries and Thesauri in the languages of your choice.
