Hi Peter:
I bit the bullet and deleted the OOo dir and re-installed the program. Apparently it appears to be working. I still can open Thunderbird and other programs that were wiped out before. I now see the icon in the system tray that wasn't there before. I may be a little premature about claiming success but so far everything is looking good . I'll get back to you in a few days after I have a chance to check every thing.
Thanks again for taking the time to help an old retired AT&T Bell Labs engineer. Been working on computers way back when you had to install flip flops, multi vibrator, and,or cards to build our own computers at the labs. Seems like you never can learn enough now a days to keep current.
