When you say that the database will not close, what does this mean. Does it mean that you use "File Close" and it just does not close?
Try using the latest OOo 2.0 beta and see if the problem remains. Also, make certain that no other windows are open for the database. Things such as forms and tables.
I have noticed that sometimes it can take a LONG time to close a database. If the problem persists, an issue should be filed in the bug tracker.
