If you are on a windows machine, you need to open an explorer window,
goto tools, folder options and then file types. Look for the *.doc and
other extensions you want to change. Sometimes easier to delete it
from that menu and then when you click it again it will ask you want
you want to open that file with and you can tell it to open all the
time with it.
