thanks but how do I get the mail back into thunderbird ?
You can copy this folder to another place (your "home" folder, a CD, another computer). This copy will be a "backup".
When you loose your data you can copy this folder again from this other localization to the place you find it. It'll restore your messages.
I mean:
Copy the folder to a CD.
Open thunderbird delete a message. Close it
Copy the folder from the CD to the place where you found it (overwriting current content).
Open thunderbird, the message should be back.
