How do I get rid of this from my computer.
Use the uninstallation feature of your OS.
If you are using windows, go to the Contro Panel, Choose Add/Remove Programs.

The second part of the statement worries me. Please can you provide a more detailed explanation.
I mean, you should be able to open your own attachments, when did it happen?, what kind of file?, what version of openoffice are you using?
