My keyboard shortcuts aren't messed up.  They report that ctrl-shift-B is
subscript.
Apparently it's a problem of character handling in Linux
(http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=41617), which has been
postponed to ooo later.  I confess I don't understand most of the
discussion in that issue, but I just wish there was a quick way I could
fix it since entering numerous subscripts in chemical formulae with the
mouse is a real pain.  It looks as if I'll have to stick to the ooo 1.1.x
series, which behaves as advertised.
