My PC hung while saving an OOo text document. I had just spent a
couple hours writing a proposal for a consulting contract. While I
could rewrite it from scratch, I would have a hard time doing such a
good job of writing it a second time. I'm in a hurry to beat a
deadline.

Are there any tools for recovering corrupted OpenOffice documents, or
do you know of any tools for recovery of corrupted zip files in
general? (I understand that OOo docs are zip archives containing
several XML documents.) If I could just get my text back I'd be very
relieved.

Here is the result of trying to recover my file with Cygwin's unzip command:

$ unzip ../*.sxw
Archive: ../scriptable_iofs_interface.sxw
 extracting: mimetype
 extracting: layout-cache
  inflating: content.xml
error: invalid compressed data to inflate
file #4: bad zipfile offset (local header sig): 3985
file #5: bad zipfile offset (local header sig): 5755
file #6: bad zipfile offset (local header sig): 6950
  inflating: META-INF/manifest.xml

Is there a way, or can you suggest a tool that would allow me to
recover even SOME of the text from content.xml?

Thanks,

Mike Crawford
