Environment: WinXP Pro, SP2, OOo 1.9.83, New blank Writer document.
Steps taken:
1. I entered three lines of text in a Text Drawing object.
2. I tried to convert it to fontwork via the Fontwork Gallery -- unsuccessful.
3. I clicked Format->Object->Fontwork, opens familiar Fontwork dialog
4. I pressed F1, got a help page titled "Fontwork Dialog (Previous Version", which states, "This Fontwork dialog is only available for Fontwork in old Writer text documents that were created prior to OpenOffice.org 1.9.83 . You must first call Tools - Customize to add a menu command or an icon to open this dialog." This is not true, as I opened it as in #3 above.
My question: Why is this dialog so deeply hidden, as it is a useful formatting tool for Text Drawing objects? It ought to be on the context menu for said objects. Why does the online Help seem to indicate that this dialog is being phased out? I cannot find any other way to format a fontwork object.

Can't answer your questions, but I've voted for the issue, because I agree this seems a retrograde step. I notice that Bruce Byfield picks up on this too in his review of the 2.0 Beta at
http://software.newsforge.com/software/05/02/25/209222.shtml?tid=93&tid=130
To quote:
"At times, too, the change is for the worse. For example, in version 1.1.4, the Fontwork tool allows graphical text to be manipulated after it was typed. By contrast, in imitation of Microsoft Office 2003, Fontwork in the beta requires users to select a generic design before typing text. Users must then double-click on the generic design to add their own text, and only then customize the design. Although the earlier version could do with a preview, the new one not only suffers the same lack, but is also far less direct and requires more steps."
Only 7 votes for this though, even with my 2, so maybe not many people agree. (Or maybe not many people use Fontwork.)
