hi evelyn
i can only guess that your form contains some kind of fields OpenOffice.org doesn't support. if you wish and if the data isn't private, you can send the document to me directly and i'll see what happens here.

This is, as far as I know, the only functionality that is curently less practical in OOo than in the Ms version of office.
The reason (as I see it): in OOo forms are intended to connect to datasources, rather than handle user imput.
For the people who do not know: a word-doc with form fields, can be set 'protected', so that the user can use tab to go directly from one field to another, and is able to enter text etc., working directly in the document.
1. Opening a doc-file with form fields in OOo, results in a document with user-imput fields.
2. Double click on it, and you can put in your text.
3. If you press Ctrl-F9, all imput fields from start to end are openend one after another. (Starting a document in OOo with a Word-template, also starts all the fields, as if you pressed Ctrl-F9)
So that's not to bad, however, you do not see the context (have to change the fieldname in order to know where you work), have to remove the spaces that are put in the fields by default, and have to mouse the OK, or use Ctrl-Tab, Enter, to leave ...
I planned a system to use bookmarks in stead of user-imput fields. Haven't worked it out yet. And it does not give the funcionality to protect the document.
Does this help enough? Kind regards,
Cor

Hi,
When I open the MS Words document in Writer,
1. Launch the OpenOffice.org.1.1 2. File -> Open -> Select my MS Words document, the file open up.
But I don't seem to be able to enter data into Data Form, a function, provided by MS Word.

Re: Fw: [users] Fw: Problem encountered in Openoffice, Writer
hi again, evelyn
what we need to know is what you mean by 'when i try to open it in Writer, i can't open it'. when you open OOo and go to File - Open, does it: a) crash OOo? b) not do (open) anything? c) open the document which doesn't contain any data forms? d) other?
this should tell us more about where the problem lies.
