The threat of EU approval of software patent law with its dire consequences for the Open Source movement (including OOo) has become perilously close.
An article by Charles Arthur in today's edition of the UK Independent newspaper shows how it is almost on the point of sliding into operation without even a vote.
There is an urgent need for every user of OOo who is a citizen of a EU member state to write to his/her MEP to voice their concern.
You can read the whole article at

but here at least is the final paragraph:
"There may just be enough time to lobby your MEP. But you have to act. Read www.nosoftwarepatents.com/en/m/help/contact.html <http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/en/m/help/contact.html> and then find your local MEP via www.europarl.org.uk/uk_meps/Members Princip.htm <http://www.europarl.org.uk/uk_meps/Members%20Princip.htm>. It might be worth your while."

Note: The link for your MEP does not work. Try http://www.europarl.org.uk/uk_meps/MembersMain.htm
