Automagically directing unsubscribed users to a point in the OOo list
archive pages where they will be able to monitor replies to their
particular queries would be nice, but I'm not sure if that can easily be
done. In the meantime, I for one do appreciate the efforts of CPH,
Tamblyne and others in forwarding the replies to the users and pointing
out to them their unsubscribed status.
Thanks.
I guess copying the list on such forwards is a way of avoiding duplication of that effort.
Yes, this should mean that the unsubscribed user receives the automatic response giving them helpful infomation (I've attached it, if anyone thinks that more should be added or made clearer), and either a CC:ed reply or a copied reply where the original answer was not CC:ed to the questioner.
The only problem with this system is about half the time, if I CC the OP to make sure he/she sees the answer, I end up getting personal e-mails from them. Not a huge deal, but I would rather not be seen as someone's personal support staff.
Hi, Rod --
Unfortunately, here at least, it's much more than half the time and quite frustrating considering the "please reply only to the list" notice at the bottom of the email -- but most people just tune out that area of the message simply because it's so often filled with mindless babblings, just as they've become numb to banner ads and animated gifs.
This only serves as an excellent example of the way people can adapt to their environment -- so there is hope after all. :-)
I have enough to do keeping my Mom happy with her sattelite TV system. (That sweet old woman has a real talent for hitting the wrong button on her remote -- 15-mile drive and two clicks to fix it usually) :)
I'm sure it's the cats that are doing it. Yes, that must be it. <g>
