First, Make sure you have the stable release OOo 1.1.4. You can try the
experimental versions after you get used to OOo though its never a good idea to
use prerelease anything for doing productive work (as Im sure you understand!).
You need to look at the settings for print under tools -> Options ->open
office.org -> Print. OOo is MUCH more sensitive about jpeg compression
statistics than MS is or can be. You can just try "high resolution" or try a
custom %.
Oh, MS Word tables are not quite the same as OOo tables and this I admit is an
irritating thing! Im not convinced that anything other than the most basic
table format will even remotely be transferred between applications.
Finally, as for saving files - save the original .doc under a new name as a OOo
.sxw file then when done - save this OOo file as another .doc under OOo with
yet another name. This is because the MSO document change management sometimes
will make the file look strange when reopened under MSO - especially when
making lots of changes.
