Something is still screwed up. I was able to open files with no problem through the menu, but couldn't close the last one to shut the computer down (clicking anywhere on the application brought the error sound). And though I only had one instance open, in Task Manager two instances of both swriter.exe and switer.bin existed, leading me to think that the previous instance had not shut down properly.

Somehow instance control is weak in the 2 series.

I see. That pretty much blows away my desktop shortcuts to frequently used files, but what must be must be..

That's generally a bad idea. In the first instance, either hit
File-Open, or File-New-Writer Document. Do not try to open another
instance. I've had the same problem and this was the only way to do
it.

I'm noticing a consistent problem in opening swriter when other
instances of OOo are already open. I get the hourglass cursor, but then
nothing ensues.

Sometimes I'll see the attempts registered as extra instances of swriter
in Task Manager, sometimes not.

The only way to open the desired file is to first close the open instances.

I need to add that when closing the existing instances, very
often the password dialog from the new instance is hung up
invisibly, and the old instances can't be closed, or Moved, or
anything. The only way to kill them is via Task Manager.
