Am using windows xp amd I'm in the spreadsheet area.
I just know I'm doing something wrong on this end.

As long as you have write privileges to the directory where you have
set for backup's to go - I cannot understand why it will not let you
use the same file name... strange. What OS are you using? What part
of OOo are you in (eg, writer, calc, etc...) ?
As to your second question, what do you mean by meld... both 1.1 and
2.0Beta can co-exist (as long as they are installed in separate
directories).
