I've never been too fussed on styles before, because I mainly produce
short documents, mainly text and brochures with lots of text boxes and
graphics, and it's always been easier to just change fonts etc on the
fly. But the spousal unit wanted me to produce some price markers for a
baby products sale she's having.

Each one had two fonts, three sizes, a line of each. I produced three
separate styles and did the job in half the time I would have taken to
change fonts etc each line.

So all you newbies (and others) who think styles are "too hard", it's
worth keeping them in mind for jobs which are almost purpose-built for
styles. Like all tools, there's a tme and a place for them.
