Mr Ryan - did you read the whole thread?
I participate in this mailing list, but only on occasion. I spend quite a bit of time supporting Mozilla products via their forums.
I think the thread you encountered is pretty typical of an exchange that can be characterized as follows:
- I'm having a problem and since I can't be bothered to do the least bit of research and this application looks like a piece of garbage, you better fix it and provide me with an answer darned quick. Oh yeah, I might be a troll. (I paraphrase, but that's pretty close to the OP's message.)
From there, the people who spend a lot of their time and energy on a cause they truly believe in react in a way that can only be called "understandable." From there it devolved into silliness.
I've seen it happen on Mozilla and, less frequently, here. Not often, but it happens.
From my perspective, the OP pretty much got what he asked for. Not what he sought, not what he thought he asked for, certainly not what he wanted, possibly not even what he deserved, but what he *did* ask for.
Were some a bit harsh? I think I know your answer and by now I think you know mine.

Christopher W. Ryan said the following:
Wow, has OOo users list changed that much since I last subscribed about a year ago? Have your focus groups discovered that disparaging remarks about interested users are a uniquely effective marketing tool? Perhaps I will try that when I advocate OOo among my students, residents, and colleagues, or on the other lists to which I belong. At least, that's what I have been doing for a long time. I've even urged people to join this list, as a great support resource. Perhaps it is time to stop.
What is "totally it" is that, like many of us, I am busy working (you know, taking care of sick people?), and so occasionally some time goes by before I get to my e-mail.
I beg your pardon if I misunderstood something about the philosophy of OOo with regard to upgrades and file formats. Seemed like an innocent enough question.
Thank you, CPH, for upholding the level-heded and helpful traditions of the list.
