OK,
I print envelopes (occasionally) from OO on my HP4500DN laser.
To get them to print correctly I must
1. Format the page as DL (for DL envelopes), using Landscape
2. File > Print > Properties (printer properties now) > Advanced > and set Paper Size again to DL
3. Insert the envelope longitudinally
These instructions are as per the User Guide.
If I do not set the printer paper size to DL I will always get the printing across the page - as with portrait printing - no matter what I do.
I admit I usually use labels.

Yes, I do all that - I set the printer to #10 envelope, have tried both longitudinal and vertical feed, etc. No dice.
