It's pretty much standard operating procedure to distinguish cash flow directions with the sign of the number.
Receive money = positive number Pay money = negative number

Interesting. Of course I follow dynamic that for most transactions; just never thought of it in this context, since multiplying a positive interest rate by a negative number yields a negative number.
Maybe it would be a good idea for the Help file and the Function wizard to give raw formulas in addition to their spreadsheet syntaxes, so the user can see the logic.
