Which Java install do I need and how do I obtain it? I did find a Java folder in the Windows directory but don't know what it is.

You can get the Java Runtime Environment at http://java.com. Click the "Java Software Download" button on the front page. The first download option listed should do the job. (The site figures out which operating system you are using.)
Of course, functionality is always the highest priority in computing, but I'm not alone when I say I'd hate to see you have to rely on Access.
