To add to wht Peter said, you will need to tell us which version of windows. e.g. if it is XP or w2k, and you have successfully installed from the base then you have the start of a multi-user installation. So once you have this you should be able to execute start > run > browse to PRograms and Files\OpenOffice???\soffice to start a personal copy for yourself.
