Thank you for the suggestion. Linking straight to the MySQL file isn't
practical, as the database is on a web server that is not local to me,
and I don't want to open any security holes by trying to directly link
OOo to the database. I did come across a workable solution, which I'm
sharing in case someone else is as weak on spreadsheet functions as I've
been.

Once the data is downloaded from the web server as a CSV and imported
into Calc, I find the COUNTIF() function will give me the data I seek,
even if it isn't done as a pretty report, as I had been used to in my
database days.

I guess I should find the time to actually read the help files...
