hi helmut this will seem a bit obvious, but what is the language you use to create your documents in? maybe you have the spellchecker set up for say German and all the documents you receive are in German, but you use English for your documents. happened to me before, too.
go to Tools - Options... - Language settings. check the default Western language and the locale. if you have it both set for the correct language (=the one you use to write your documents), then it should work. urska > I have Openoffice 1.1.4.
