I suspect you have a document or system specific issue rather than an OOo explicit problem, so filing an issue probably won't gain much.

If you want to and have a place to post the document, preferably both the original MSW2000 and the imported OOo versions, I will gladly take a look at it. There are probably several others who might join in, too. My last, and only, version of MSO is '97, so I won't be able to open the original except in OOo, but it will verify if the problem is tied to your system or the document.

On the other hand, if you want to send it directly to me, I'll reply off list with a preferred email address. (Spambot avoidance maneuver.)

Thanks for all the ideas so far.

Unfortunately, I'm still having problems with the page borders. I've
unchecked apply border as suggested but the page borders are still above
the header box and below the footer box. I can't get them to appear
close to the text at all.

I'm stumped on what to do. Any ideas appreciated!

Should I also raise an issue on the OOo website?

Alex

One other setting that can cause the behavior:
Tools > Autocorrect > Options Tab
Uncheck "Apply border"

The horizontal lines actually appear under Menu>Format>Page>Borders.
There are no lines in User-defined for header or footer. I've tried removing the existing lines from Borders and then clicking just below the gray area as you suggest but Ooo won't allow me to click in the gray area at all. If I click just above the gray area, the borders still appear above the box for the header and below the footer.

Is there another setting that I need to adjust.

I am trying to use OpenOffice version 1.9.93 to open reports created in Microsoft Word 2000. In Word, there are page borders which are measured from text and do not surround the header and footer.

When I "file" "open" these documents in Word, the page borders move to

below the header and footer. How can I avoid this happening? If it is impossible to avoid this problem at this stage of development, how can

I correct the page borders so they show correctly?

I don't know how to correct the problem automatically on import. That

being said:

1. Menu > Format > Page
2. Select the Header Tab.
3. At the bottom left, click on More...
4. In the box labelled "User-defined", I suspect you will see a horizontal line above the gray area in the center of the box.
Click on the visible line to remove it. Click just to the bottom of the gray area to add a line below the header.
5. Go to the Footer tab and repeat the process for the desired

results.
