The symbol font is quite tricky, since it may be used for unexpected
(and/or invisible) things.

This is what I would do: print the document, generating a PostScript
file. Then analyse the PostScript file to find out exactly where the
offending font is used.

private e-mail) I can take a look (although I'm a bit limited in
