There are quite a few tools that work natively with sx*/od* documents. But I'd say OmegaT is the one that's easier to use.
Let me paste here the presentation text from the Yahoo page:
OmegaT is a high performance Computer Assisted Translation tool with : fuzzy matching, translation memory, keyword search, glossary term identification and translation leveraging into updated projects.
OmegaT supports projects including Microsoft Office files (using OpenOffice.org as a conversion filter), OpenOffice.org or StarOffice files, as well as (x)html or plain text files.
OmegaT offers real multilingual support through full acceptance of UNICODE encoded files.
OmegaT fully supports the TMX (Translation Memory eXchange) standard up to version 1.1 and is thus compatible with other professional CAT tools.
OmegaT is a Java application that runs on Windows, Mac OSX, Linux among other platforms.
Right now, professional translators mostly use MSOffice file formats. The point here is to use OOo to convert to a format you can parse, get the strings into an editing interface, translate and re-inject the strings where they belong.
Thus there is no format loss at all from source to target language, the only possible loss is in the MS->OOo->MS conversion, but this is not relevant here since users are supposed to use OOo mainly.
I work with OmegaT daily to translate MS files (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) with an OOo conversion.
