It would be nice but I had a CD worth of files and many were Corel Draw files. I had access to version 9 of Corel Draw but guess what. It wouldn't open the files either. I found a copy of 11 and it would open the files, well most of the files. Converted them to pdf and other formats to import into OOo Draw. It wasn't pleasant.

Basically, it is a closed file format and not used as much as other
formats. I don't know if Star Office supports them or not. This is
another reason to support open file formats.

When I got the files converted, I burned a CD with them on and put the
current version of OOo on the CD as well.

I was looking at something that had all the edit tools and ability to change the file. OOo offered this option. I made pdf's of each file as well so I could see a reference if there were problems with conversion. And yes there were problems with conversion between Corel Draw and other programs including png svg etc.

My feelings are that Corel Draw has the problem. I spent as much time as I could and finally went with what would work. I further confirmed that I hate Windows (XP Pro) while doing this.

I also wanted to have a software package that is available across platforms so I don't have to spend time looking for a computer to open the files in the future. It also makes it easier to move people to OOo by having the files already in OOo format.

There were more than just cdr files. There were combination of WordPerfect and MS Word files.
