Maybe you want to write a StarBasic script to generate your document based on the contents of the data source ?

Also why not use the report generator ?

Because I want it to act like a normal document, not a report.
I want a document where a portion of it can be automatically updated from a database. The rest of it can be modified like a normal document. I was hoping someone had done this type of thing before. But, I guess I'll try playing around with the report generator some more. It seems to create overly complex documents with little room for modification. But again, I haven't played with it much at all. Maybe it can do what I want. I just don't know how yet.

Another example of the type of thing I am trying to do.

Dear Sir,

Say you are writing a letter or report to someone. Perhaps it is a monthly/quarterly status report. Somewhere in the body of the letter you want to include some data from a database. You go and insert a database link that runs a query and outputs the current data.

Part Price
X2324 2.38
X5843 3.84
...

And then continue with more information that is vitally important to this letter, report or whatever you are doing.

Thank you,
Dr. Smart Person IV
