Last time, regarding this issue.

I have discovered, through testing by creating a new DB, that there must be some failure in my design, which is causing problems.

I took my original simple DB structure and recreated it in MS Access and received a few errors when I attempted to add records in the form I created. This lead me to believe that there is a problem in the structure of the my DB design.

With this information, I am going back to the drawing board and will be redesigning my DB.

Thanks again,
Robert Adkins

   I did some more searching.

I discovered a button on the bottom of the Form Edit Window that revealed the dialog box that Andrew was referring to.

In the properties screen, under Data the form is setup to allow the addition of information into the form. However, when opened up in "use mode" I get a (Read-Only) note next to the form name and I am unable to add any records to the DB.

   Thanks again,

   Andrew,

   Thanks for the reply.

I did not set anything that would deny me the ability to write to the database through the form creation dialog. From the option that I chose, I should be able to add things to the DB all day long.

I have followed your directions, but I am unable to locate the exact dialog boxes you are referring to.

   1. I opened my form for Editing.

2. I opened the only thing I could locate that says "Navigator" within the Form Edit window, which is through either hitting the F5 key or through clicking on "Navigator" under the 'Edit' drop down menu.

3. I can't find anything referring to the 'main form' in the "Navigator" window and I am unable to locate any right-click menu option referring to properties.

4. Because I can't find the option suggested under option 3, I am unable to locate anything referring to edit/add data.

BTW, I had failed to add that I am using the OO.o 1.9.100 release of the application, in my previous request for assistance.

   Thanks again,
   Robert Adkins

I have created forms that allow me non-read-only access (I can add and modify existing records) with no problem. There is a point where you are asked what access level you desire on the form. You state that you did not set this. What did you chose for this question?

Open your form for editing.
With the form open, open the form navigator.
In the form navigator, right click on the main form and choose properties.
Click on the Data tab.
Does it say that you can edit/add, etc.... the data?

Check this for each contained form if required.

I am testing the feasability of using Base for building an inexpensive roll-my-own data/invetory tracking system and I seem to be running into a snag.

I have created a very basic two table DB consisting of Vendors and Salespeople that work at the various vendors.

So far, the tables work fine, joining them together in a Query worked fine as well.

The problem is creating the forms.

I built a Query consisting of most of the fields from both tables and added buttons for next, previous, create additional records, save the current record and also delete the visible record.

This was performed using the wizard form creation and during that process, I did not choose any of the options specifically stating that the form would be unable to add/change records.

After saving the form, closing the editing window and then reopening the form in order to start adding in records, I am provided with a (Read-Only) message at the top of the screen and I am only able to view the few records that I have previously added to the DB.

At first, I figured that there might be a problem with the construction of the tables, since my rough construction would allow for the creation of multiple copies of the Vendor company name. (I know, bad design.) So, I created another Query, this time consisting of just the Vendor information and created another form for that Query.

I created this new form using both the explicit "This form is to be used for New Data Entry only" (It won't show existing data) and the second option which will show all existing records and provide options to deny the changing of records or the entry of new records.

In all cases, I am unable to use the Forms to enter new data into the tables. None of the buttons, besides the Previous/Next buttons will function within the form itself or in the toolbar at the bottom of the Form window.

Am I missing something or is that a currently broken piece of Base?

   Thanks for any answers,
   Robert Adkins
