Not sure I understand; but I'll give it a go.  First, OOo2 does handle
the 1.1.x formats so they should be showing up in the Stylist. Open the
Stylist and select All Styles from the dropdown at the bottom of the
toolbar window and see if the ones for your older doc are there.

They are stored within the docs and templates. I suggest that you use
either use 2.0's File > Templates > Organize  or do what I do, simply
copy my templates into $HOME/.openoffice org1.9.xx if they are personal
or, for ones that are global, into <path to>/openoffice.org1.9.xx/share/
where <path to> is where you installed OOo2. 

Now back to paragraph styles. Like I said above they should just be
there regardless. If they are not, then we have a problem. I know I
don't have the same OS as you so it would help if you would tell us as
this may be distro specific. Knowing which of the 1.9 releases would
also help.
