First of all, you should upgrade XP to SP3. You can do that for free.
Second, your startup programs are stored in C:\Documents and
Settings\[your user name]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If this really is too far off topic, flame if you wish, but please
answer it anyhow.
I run Windows XP SP1. I have installed OO.o 1.9.69, 1.9.95 and
1.9.100. I downloaded the beta .sxw document
"Working with Writer". The machine stopped responding
to anything except Cntl Alt Del, the task manager. It was
not particularly responsive to that either.
I finally succeeded in logging out. When I logged back in, three
instances of the quick starter showed in my system tray. Two of these
has cause the system to be unresponsive before, so I killed the
earlier two. Immediate problem solved.
EXCEPT: I don't want the earlier two QS to load at startup.
Can some kind soul please tell me where XP hides the tables that
control loading at startup, otherwise tell me how to prevent the
earlier two quick starters from loading?
Thanks!

Maybe you need to go into the previous OOo installs and turn off
Quickstart in each of them, leaving only the one you want active. All
else failing, hit WinKey-R and type msconfig-Enter and go to the
StartUp tab to see what autoloads in Windows.
