When you cut and paste text (or copy and paste it), you have two
ways to do it. You can use "paste", or you can use "paste special".
When you just "paste" text, it is copied with all of its formating
(color, size, font, etc.). As an earlier poster mentioned, all of these
are part of the style the text had in its original location.
When you use "paste special", you have the opportunity to change
some if not all of the original text style. One of these choices is
always unformated text. If you use this one, the copied text accepts
the formating that is already present in the location to which it is
pasted.
As an example, open a new text document in OOo. Type in some text.
Change the font for part of the text, the font size for another part,
and the font color for another part. Highlight all of the text, and
copy it. Open a second new text document. Use paste special with the
unformatted text option. The format of the text in this second document
has been changed: there is only one font, one font size, and one font
color.
