I wouldn't recomend having all Out Of Office emails set as junk, or be automatically deleted or what-not.

This is the kind of thing that may one day bite you in the behind.

You should only do this if you use multiple email addresses with a mail program that can filter mail for multiple email accounts.

One account, setup for mailing lists like this, for instance, could have Out Of Office replies sent into the bit bucket.

Another account would be for important business or personal business stuff that you should only use for that type of communication, then when you really need to know if someone is out of the office, you don't find out a week or more after the fact, which could cost you quite a few problems, if your email was or is time sensitive.

I just did this myself:
Go to: Tools > Message Filters...
Click on New... and name the filter Out Of Office Junk or something like that.
In the section called "For incoming messages that:" select: Subject containts "Out Of Office"
In the section called "Perform these actions:" set "Set Junk Status to:" Junk (make sure the checkbox is checked) and click ok.

Now all messages containing "Out Of Office" in the subject will be marked as junk.

No. Some of our users do not know how to setup vacation or whatever
autoresponder they use to ignore mailing lists. Hence the odd one gets
through. On your end, your virus scanner should work filtering out the crap that
is flooding the Internet.

Makes me think. If I were more confident at fooling around with settings, I could have Thunderbird junk everything with "Out of Office" in the subject line.
