I am not sure if I am one of the "people over here", but I use Emacs. I am
not sure I can recommend it to a beginner though, it's very different from
most software around these days. It's a very powerful, but maybe a little
hard to learn, text editor but it can do just about anything, exept maybe
coffee. Installing something called psgml will give you some tools for XML
etc. I have not edited too many XML files so far with it, so I can't say if
it does it good or not, but at least it was easier with the psgml installed
than it was without it…

You are right, it *is* very different from other software. I will need to go through its manuals... Anyway, let me make sure I understand correctly: I have to install psgml after installing emacs, right? (That is, if I manage to install emacs in the first place...)
