Hi,
I rountinely make PDFs with Open Office 3.0 for Mac for distributing to my
students. However it seems that as of OSX 10.5.5 the pdfs from open
office crash quicklookd. Quicklook generates thumbnails for Finder and I
cannot prevent this from happening.
I've posted this on the MacOSX support forums, but I'm wondering if anyone
has an idea of what is going on here.
Here is an example document

I couldn't download your file but your problem sounds similar to the
problem I had after upgrading to OS 10.5.5. Every time I went to a
folder with a lot of PDF files I had created, the CPU usage would go to
100% for both cores and my computer would become totally unresponsive
requiring a start button shutdown. The faulty process was ATSserver.
There were tons of fatal exceptions in the System log.
My solution: Go to System Preferences/Spotlight/Search Results and
uncheck 'Fonts'.
I haven't rechecked it yet to verify. I had previously tried several
things including deleting all font caches without solving the problem. I
had read about problems in the past that some people had. Spotlight
apparently tries to index the fonts in the pdf files.
