     Very likely there has been formating changes made in the existing 
paragraph other than using styles. (Examples: Bold, underline, font 
size, etc.) When this has happened, changing some characteristics of an 
applied style will not show up in the paragraph.
     Try this: highlight a paragraph, copy it, and then paste it in 
another part of the document using paste special:
Edit > Paste Special > Unformated text. Leave the cursor at the end of 
the paragraph. Open the Stylus (F11), and double click on a paragraph 
style. Modify the style, and double click on it again. The paragraph 
should now show the new formating of the modified style.
