using OO1.1.4 and OO 1.9.100 on a winxp pc with a 2.4GHZ processor and 512MB ram, there is an appreciable delay of several minutes when saving and auto saving a large-ish spreadsheet of 5 sheets, 30 columns, 2500 rows, file size as .sxc 517KB.

The delay was kind of useful when I extended the auto save period and used it as an enforced break reminder until it became a pita.

When I changed the file format to .XLS the save/auto save was over in a couple of seconds whilst the file size increased to 2111KB - I guess there are times when you appreciate a file being automatically zipped, and times when you rather it didn't

I agree. The combination of how the image was inserted into Word, and
the conversion from Word, I think, contributed to my issue. Once I
inserted a jpg of the same image, my issue went away, because I could
not blame my machine, a PIII 1000MHz with 512MB of RAM.

Realize the way the files are stored.
Your document is a zipped file that includes
several XML files.
(Try to rename the file to .zip extension and have a look)
When you use Win98 - I suppose your PC is probably
old-fashion with not a fassssst processor :-)

On my notebook (with 2.6 GHz WinXP) I can watch a very small delay
and for about 1 sec I can watch the progressbar when saving
spreadsheet of cca 50kB.

Hi, I have OOo 1.9.100 running on Windows 98. I am getting used to
the new version, and like what I see. I have noticed (it is hard not
to) an issue with saving (auto save does it too). My computer stops
responding, including the mouse, for approximately 15-20 seconds (I
haven't actually timed it) whenever a OOo tries to save a file (Writer
file .odt).

I was just wondering if anyone else has this issue? Could it be debug
code still embedded in the beta version? Is it my computer (I know,
Windows 98?, but I work for a small software company, and my machine
is the Win98 test machine)?

Thanks for any insight,

Rodney
