hi,
Thanks for the quick response. Tried the prefix thingy and this is the
result:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] RPMS]# rpm ivh --prefix /usr/local *.rpm
rpm: --prefix may only be used when installing new packages
[EMAIL PROTECTED] RPMS]#
Now I had 1.1.3 on before but I used rpm to remove it. Maybe it did an
inexact job. Any ideas on cleanup?
I believe that the previous installer was excellent, and as good as any
around. I understand that the rpm route gives more package control,
especially for upgrades, but is overly complex compared with the tar.gz
and then ./setup. At least it asked you if you had a particular
destination in mind.
But why /opt what is so distasteful about /usr/local? I picked the
idea of a separate partition for /usr/local up from a Slackware
article. Now whenever I do a system upgrade I just format / and /user
and everything stays peachy.
Obviously I need to bone up on rpm, but I thought that with rpm you
didn't have to, unless you wanted to build packages.
Where to now?
