Ed,
        It sounds like the first place to look is in your printer
settings.  These are found under File|Print in the Ooo (or any program)
menu.  These usually apply only to the current document.
        The second place to look is again in Ooo under Tools|Options.
a) Under OpenOffice.org|Print there is a checkbox to "Convert all colors
to grayscale".  Make sure this is unchecked.  B) Under OpenOffice.org
Writer|Print dialogue, under the "Contents" column, there is a checkbox
called "Print Black".  Make sure this is unchecked.
        The Third place to look is in Windows XP Control Panel|Printer
settings.  Go to the Properties dialogue for your printer and make sure
that you have not selected the option for "Black ink only" or its
equivalent in your printer's setup dialogue.
