Well, the primary difference is that you didn't get those 800+ messages in your inbox. But this actually is a good example; having seen the 800+ Kaye Evans blast, I read one (I use SeaMonkey but the same works for Thunderbird) and immediately set a filter to delete her messages from my newsreader message list.
